My time at Jostens was full of incredible opportunities to flex both my design and content capabilities, but here we'll focus mostly on the design projects that resulted in real-world published items that could be purchased and used by end consumers and yearbook customers alike.
Jostens Journals | B2C Yearbook Consumer Products
Challenge
Jostens Yearbooks needed a hardcover journal design to sell on the Jostens Yearbooks website as an add-on item for yearbook customers.
Solution
I concepted twelve different journal designs to be considered for production. Each design had a unique look and feel, but focused on on three key phrases; "The Adventure Awaits," "This Will Be My Year," and "This Is Just the Beginning."
Result
A polished, merchandisable product that made it to the Jostens website for public consumption. Consumers could choose these items separately as gifts or during the yearbook checkout process as an upsell.
Jostens Yearbook Covers | B2B Yearbook Customer Cover Options
Challenge
Jostens Yearbooks needed to redesign several of their "studio" yearbook cover options that were used by schools that did not want to start from scratch with their yearbook cover design. Some of these designs were in desperate need of a refresh as they had not been touched for many years.
Solution
With my supervisor as my art director, I redesigned twelve studio cover options utilizing new colors, illustrations, and font choices to completely revitalize the designs. I worked with our production teams in Tennessee and Kansas to test the final production results of each design and then ultimately each new design was uploaded into the online design program and printed in the yearly catalog of cover options.
Result
Twelve all-new designs for existing themes that were available for use by yearbook customers that same year. Over 200 schools ended up using one of my designs in the 2019-2020 school year.
